Science FeaturedPeer-reviewed research, explained
Editorial standards

How a feature is made

The rules every Science Featured feature follows, from choosing a paper to correcting a published piece.

Last updated October 2026

1. How papers are chosen

Our editors read recently published, peer-reviewed papers across all fields and invite the authors of those whose findings can interest readers outside the field. Researchers can also send us their own paper.

2. Every feature is based on a peer-reviewed paper

We only feature research that has been published in a peer-reviewed journal or proceedings. The feature links to the paper by DOI and gives the full reference, so any reader can check the source.

3. Accuracy before readability

We write for non-specialists, but never at the cost of accuracy. Before the authors see the draft, it is checked against the paper: findings, terms, the type of study (a review is not described as an experiment; a study in cells or animals is not described as a treatment), limitations, and the names of the researchers and institutions. We do not add claims the paper does not make.

4. The authors approve the final text

The authors review the draft and can correct it as often as needed; the corresponding author gives the final approval. We publish only the approved version. Quotations attributed to researchers are always approved by them.

5. Writing tools

Our editors may use software, including AI writing tools, to help draft and check features. Every feature is checked against the paper by an editor and approved by the authors before publication.

6. Health content

Features about health and medicine describe research findings; they are not medical advice. We say what kind of study it was, and we do not present early, laboratory or animal results as treatments.

7. Corrections

If you find an error in a feature, write to admin [at] sciencefeatured.com with the link and the correction. We fix factual errors promptly and note significant corrections at the end of the feature.
